Arabic Online Courses From The Comfort Of Your Home!

We offer one-to-one courses both in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and Egyptian Colloquial Arabic (ECA). We have levels from beginners to advanced that take you towards fluency in either MSA or ECA.

COURSE GENERAL OUTLINE
The levels’ outline in both courses is exactly the same as our regular face-to-face Arabic courses. For course details please see these links:

HOW THE COURSE IS CONDUCTED

  • Classes meet according to the agreed schedule.
  • The teacher sends the pre-lesson materials and assignments to the student before each live online lesson. Those materials include glossary of new vocabulary, grammar notes and introductory assignments.
  • Students study the pre-lesson materials and submit the assignments to the teacher who will mark and return back to the students.
  • Students meet the teacher live online according to the schedule and the activities will include:
    • A revision on the content of the pre-lesson package where concepts are clarified and errors are corrected.
    • Practice of the target language skills (listening, speaking or reading) through learning interactions that include teacher-student and student-student interactions using shared online resources and tools in the virtual classroom.
    • Setting up the post-lesson assignment for post-lesson self-study or in preparation for the next lesson activity.

CANCELLATION AND MAKEUP:
Please have a look at the attached document regarding class cancellation and make up.

THE VIRTUAL CLASSROOM:
We use Zoom virtual meetings as a tool for running the live online lessons. For help using Zoom please visit this link: http://www.ihcairo-elearn.com/tools/zoom/
The live online lesson could be recorded for future reference which helps you review previous lesson.

Hardware Setup:
Participants need to be prepared with a headset to use during the session as the built in microphone produces undesirable echo. They could use a camera if they like.

Software Setup:
The virtual classroom is accessed through any browser, preferably Google Chrome. The browser needs to have certain settings adjusted before the first use in order to connect to Zoom. Google Chrome is the best in terms of automated setup.
The teacher will help you connect to the virtual classroom and show you how to use it.

Sample Live Online Lesson Scenario

  • Depending on the content and the aim of the lesson, after going through the pre-lesson assignments your tutor explains to you the main points, vocabulary and phrases. We prefer to give explanations in Arabic with the help of visuals, but if you’re a beginner we use a bit of translation along with visuals.
  • The explanation stage is followed by initial practice activities to help you to be more confident with the pronunciation, meaning and use of the target language items.
  • That stage is followed by a skills-practice stage which could be speaking, listening or reading depending on the lesson type.
  • Live-online lesson sample: Things in the office
We’re displaying this only to give you an idea about materials and instructions. Your lesson might be dealing with a totally different area depending on your level and your learning needs.

This lesson aims at teaching students the names of things in the office and how to instruct somebody to help them arrange things the way they like.

    • The tutor uses a PowerPoint presentation to teach the new vocabulary, meaning, pronunciation and use. It looks like this PDF
    • After some oral drill and Q/A practice, the tutor teaches expressions for giving instructions using another PowerPoint. It looks like this PDF
    • In the members area in this website students have access to online resources for self-study and consolidation. This sample helps you revise and learn more related vocabulary.
    • Another example of related useful resource is this flash card set in PDF.
    • Back to the lesson, you’ll see a sample game that simulates moving furniture around in an office room. You instruct a classmate to move something and you’ll be able to see what they’re doing. It’s used to practice speaking.
  • After each lesson you will be assigned some language tasks as appropriate.
  • Throughout the course, your progress is monitored through continuous assessment and you’ll get all the help you need if you have any learning problems.
